Commissioned from Regional One Hospital, this iteration of Floating Meditations evokes continuously unfolding cloud formations as translated into fragmented geometric patterns. My use of these patterns recalls the scientific structures underpinning the metamorphosis of water to gas, solid crystal, and back again. Geometric shapes dissolve and reassemble themselves into organic forms, ordering a metaphor for the renewal of life that is especially potent in a hospital setting. Sequestered away from nature, patients and their families are invited to re-immerse themselves in the universal cycles of making and unmaking. Floating Meditations provides a surrogate for the sky itself: eternal with its ever-changing cloud shapes; the sky is always there to provide moments of wonder, calm, contemplation.
